''The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'' has grossed over $956 million, becoming the 28th highest grossing film of all time. ''Big Hero 6'' has grossed over $657 million, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of 2014 and the 16th highest-grossing animated film of all time. 2014 sets the record for the greatest number of films (15 films) earning more than $500 million (''Big Hero 6'', ''How to Train Your Dragon 2'', ''American Sniper'', ''Godzilla'' and ''Rio 2'' have all grossed over $500 million) exceeding the number of films that surpassed the mark in 2012 (13 films) and passing the number of films grossing over $600 million.
